So, a little back story maybe before the question. Getting worms in Dubai is really difficult or really, really expensive. I had found someone early last year selling red wigglers for $1.50 per Worm. So by my calculations, that would babe been $1500 for a half lb of worms. I really wanted worms but I'm not crazy. Fast forward 10 months and all during that time I was keeping my eyes out on market place and other online community groups to see if I could find worms. Low and behold, there was a kid selling ANC's for 60¢ each and I offered him $150 for 300. I got my bedding ready and received my worms on December 15 and they arrived in a plastic tub with some smelly bedding but I was a little underwhelmed when they didn't look like much, as well as there being many wisps and not many adult worms. I wasn't dishearten though, I just thought it would take me a few months the get them fattened up in time for them to reach maturity and start mating.
Yesterday, whilst I was shooting a video for the tube, I was wondering if there really were 300 in the bin as they had started to grow and I would love to know before they start mating and it was too late to really have a count. Stupidly (of maybe not), I decided to count them last night. It took FOREVER! The final tally was 904 worms.
Firstly, I couldn't believe how many wisps I had in there. Could it be possible that they're already mating and I just didn't notice any cacoons because I wasn't looking for them? Maybe there were cacoons in the bedding they came in but there were at least 150 tiny baby worms. Now my question is, do I split them up or keep them in their bin for now? I have 6 inches of bedding in for them and they don't look crowded at all, I just don't have much space in the bin for when I want to turn them over to check the bedding. Any suggestions
