Hey worm people, I'm Josiah and I need a bit of advice about my new bedding I decided to try out.
In a wheelburrow, I put 5 gallons of shredded newspaper, 5 gallons of ripped up cardboard, 5 gallons of rabbit manure from under cages, no doubt filled with urine and food as well, 5 gallons horse manure, 5 gallons aged fine wood chips. The newspaper is shredded in about 1 inch thick long strips, and the cardboard is just a few inches wide and long, no way to get it precise.
Pretty much just 1 part of each, the volume doesn't really matter.
I soaked it all in water, (still soaking, gonna let it sit for 2 days) and am hoping to drain it, then put it inside of a metal trash can so it can age until I need it. (Another breeder bin is starting in 2 weeks)
So I'm hoping this will have a lot of variety and make great vermicompost relatively quickly, but I just wanted to check here with teh experience folks before I start. (The last thing I want is to poison my worms!)
Also on a slightly different note, does anyone have any ideas on how to stir it? I just assumed a hoe would have to suffice, not sure if anyone else here has any tricks up their sleeves for mixing up their bedding :)
Thanks for your time, many blessing and have a great day and remember, just keep worming🪱
Best Regards,
Josiah
