Trying to figure out if there is a market for red mites because I have TRILLIONS of them in my worm bins right now. I recently learned that there is a market for fungus gnats, and I have a bunch of those, too, but not interested in raising them to sell.
But the MITES. Yikes. Have never noticed them in my bins before. Pretty sure the reason I now have an abundance is because about 6 months ago when I started setting up breeder bins I decided it would be a great idea to keep the bedding wetter than I had been previously, cause the worms and cocoons like it so much more. Yeah, so do mites, apparently.
I trapped a few million of them on some banana peels today and threw them outside where they promptly froze, or went into hibernation. I think I will put the rest of them, as I catch them, into a sealable container and send them to the incinerator. Not only do I not like them myself, but I can't be selling mite infested worms to other people, especially people who are attending my beginning vermiculture workshops, lol.
